Annual Peace Summits
Successful Black Women of MSU created their annual Peace Summits, in an attempt to bring members of the community together to discuss topics that affect our lives. The first Peace Summit occurred in 2012, and has continued to be a method for the organization to reach community members.
2015-2016 Peace Summit
The theme for this Peace Summit is “Voices of the Unheard.” Our goal was to encourage attendees to discuss the importance of mentorship and cultivating leaders.
2015-2016 Peace Summit
The theme for this Peace Summit is “Formation: Creating Bonds & Building Unity.” Our goal was to encourage attendees to build upon themselves and their community to make the world a better place. This involved conversations about community building and problem solving.
2014-2015 Peace Summit
This year, our theme for Peace Summit is "A Peaceful High Noon: Watering the Community One Mind at a Time.” We will be taking this time to acknowledge the achievements of many great women in the community, as well as our graduating members. It is our hope that the bonds that we create will water our community, thus allowing our garden to grow mentally, physically and spiritually.
2013-2014 Peace Summit
Our theme this year is “Enslave, But Not Broken”. This Peace Summit stemmed from the need to work with others to bring forth a more just society. However, we realized that we couldn’t accomplish this alone. As we began to embark upon this project, we invited others who we believed would be just as passionate about social justice issues as we are, to join us.
2012-2013 Peace Summit
The intent of this summit is to allow participants an opportunity to gain greater insight into the common issues that they deal with locally and globally; to destroy myths and stereotypes about each other; to for alliances; and to galvanize student activism and become future social justice leaders.
2011-2012 Peace Summit
The summit is open to all MSU students, regardless of race, gender, religion, socio-economic status or political persuasion. This will be an opportunity for students from different cultural backgrounds to come together to share and learn, more importantly, to commit to sustaining the bridges that we hope will be built so that they can become better citizens within and outside of their communities.
